Sustainability & Social Impact
As part of our mission to promote the goodness of cacao, Choc Chick is committed to sustainable and ethical sourcing. We do all we can to minimise the risk of modern slavery and exploitation in our supply chain and ensure our processes, suppliers, and materials have minimal impact on the environment
ENDING MODERN SLAVERY & CHILD LABOUR PLEDGE
Choc Chick is a small company with big dreams; to work differently and make a difference to how cocoa is sourced. From our establishment in 2009, our aim has always been to work ethically and sustainability, sourcing all our cacao directly from cooperatives in Ecuador and Peru.
We understand the prevalence of slavery and child labour in cocoa supply chains and have developed policies and working practices that enable us to have complete traceability and reduce the risks of exploitation.
Our Commitment:
Choc Chick is committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure there is no exploitation, modern slavery, or human trafficking in our supply chain.
We are committed to ensuring the suppliers with whom we do business understand the risks of modern slavery in supply chains and take appropriate action to identify and address those risks.
We are committed to raising awareness of the risks of modern slavery within our company, ensuring all employees are aligned with our policies and share our belief that all humans should be treated equally and respectfully. We hope that our commitment contributes in some way to the eradication of slavery in all its forms.
*Our Founder, Galia Orme is proud to have been contributed to Make a Positive Impact’s Anti-Slavery Ethical Sourcing Toolkit and you can download a copy of this toolkit below.
Fighting the Climate Crisis
Our partnership with One Tribe means you too can fight the climate crisis every time you shop on chocchick.com. Rainforests are the lungs of our planet and store CO2 from our atmosphere, so protecting rainforest is critical to combating climate change.
The Amazon Rainforest, the world’s largest rainforest is also where much of our cacao comes from, so we want to protect the Amazon and all rainforests! Choc Chick is committed to saving endangered rainforests, and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, so every order you place helps save 5 trees!
Minimising & Reducing Carbon Footprint
Recyclable Packaging
We pledged to move all our packaging to fully recyclable packaging by 2022 and our proud to have reached this commitment. From January 2022, all Choc Chick packaging is 100% recyclable!
Sustainable Transport
Our commitment to minimising and reducing our carbon footprint also includes the transport of our products. We are committed to shipping all the products and materials we import to the UK and work closely with our suppliers, plan all our orders carefully to minimise the use of air transport and do all we can to freight ship so as to reduce our carbon impact.
Biodiversity – No Monocultures, No Palm Oil, No Soya!
You will never find any palm oil or soya in our ingredients and products, that’s a non-negotiable for us, but we are also committed to sourcing from bio-diverse cocoa plantations. Cacao is a collaborative plant and grows best under the shade of other trees and we know that the best cacao is always grown in a biodiverse environment, so have always insisted on sourcing from producers who grow a variety of crops, like bananas, plantain, mangos, oranges, and coffee together with our cacao. It’s why our products have such a lovely fruity taste!
