CHOCtastic chocolate facts

  • Did you know that chocolate is made from cocoa beans that grow inside beautiful colourful pods on cocoa trees?
  • Thousands of years ago, the Mayan and Aztec civilisations in Central and South America used cocoa beans as currency and most families had a cocoa in their garden.
  • In ancient Mayan times 10 cocoa beans bought you a rabbit and you could buy a pumpkin with just 4 cocoa beans.
  • Aztecs priests and soldiers believed drinking a special chocolate drink called Xocoatl (CHO-CO-A-TIL) gave them extra power and strength (find this secret recipe inside).
